우리나라에서는 사랑니를 일반치과의사들이 많이 뽑아왔지만, 세계적으로는 그렇지 않은 경우가 많았다. 일반치의들은 외과적인 치료를 아예 안하는 경우도 많았었다.
그러나 임플란트가 대중화 되면서 일반치과의사들이 외과적인 치료에 관심이 많아졌다. 비단 우리나라만의 문제가 아니라 전 세계적인 추세이다. 그러면서 자연스럽게 발치에도 관심이 증가하였고, 마찬가지로 관심이 증가하였다.
그러나 일반치과의사들이 사랑니를 뽑는 방식은 숙련된 외과의사와 달라야 한다. 외과의사들은 출혈, 통증, 부종 등에 대한 처치 능력이 뛰어나기 때문에, 좀 더 액티브한 발치를 할 수 있다.
또한 외국의 경우는 환자를 다시 보지 않는 경우가 많고, 발치로 진료가 종결되기 때문에 크게 신경쓰지 않는 경우도 많다. 그러나 일반치과의사들의 경우는 다르다. 출혈과 통증, 부종 등에 처치 능력이 부족하기도 하지만, 장기적으로 다른 치료까지 이어져서 해야 하는 경우가 많다.
그러기 때문에 사랑니를 뽑는 것 그 자체만의 문제가 아니라, 중장기적으로 환자와 좋은 유대관계를 가질 수 있는 덜 붓고 덜 아픈 사랑니발치에 집중해야한다. 오늘은 일반치의가 접근 할 수 있는 최소접근식 사랑니발치에 대해 이야기 하겠다.
In Korea, wisdom teeth extractions are usually carried out by general dentists. Whereas in other countries, it is more common for them to be referred to specialists instead. Some clinics do not even offer any surgical procedures. However, as implant is getting widely accepted, more and more general dentists are being interested in performing surgical procedures, including wisdom teeth extraction. This is not just a trend in Korea, but rather that is observed all around the world.
However, the way that general dentists carry out the wisdom teeth extraction should be different to the specialists. The specialists can be more daring in their approach to surgical procedures as they are more experienced with handling complications such as bleeding, pain, swelling, etc. Also, in other countries, often the specialist do not see the patient again after the procedure and hence they do not have to worry about the post-operation circumstances. However, that is not the case for general dentists. General dentists are less experienced with handling such complications that come after surgery and they also need to continue treating the patient for hopefully long term. Hence, general dentists need to focus, not merely on the completion of extracting those wisdom teeth, they also need to focus on maintaining good rapport with the patient by finishing up the wisdom teeth extractions in the least painful and with the least amount of swelling as possible. Today, I will be talking about minimal surgical approach for wisdom teeth extractions carried out by general dentists.
